Patterson Garden Club joined the city to plant and maintain nine large flower pots in the downtown circle and the planter box under the WELCOME sign at the corner of Highway 33 and Las Palmas Avenue. Club members volunteer to help with this project.
Patterson Garden Club won the 1st place award and ribbon in our division for 2019 for the given theme of "fantasy". The Fair Garden committee that creates our fair exhibits is formed in April. We look forward to participating in the themed garden exhibit at the Stanislaus County Fair Grounds again in 2022.
The Patterson Garden Club joins other community civic organizations and individuals as sponsors of the local PRIDE scholarships. This past year, we awarded scholarships to two graduating seniors. One was a $1500 scholarship. PRIDE also awarded a second scholarship of $1500 in our name in recognition for work that we have done in the past.
Patterson Garden Club partners with the Rising Sun Farm and Garden, a continuing education school for special needs students between the ages of 18-22. The club helps with special events, lavender harvesting, and providing supplies. The school provides plants and other products for some of the Garden Club events. Ways for club members to help at the school are announced in the monthly PGC Newsletter.
The Patterson Garden Club is undertaking a community garden project at the Patterson Library which is intended to include perennial fruits, vegetables, and herbs that can be harvested by library patrons. It will also include California native species to provide additional habitat for our local pollinators and offer a tangible anchor to California history. We hope to make this outdoor space a welcoming area where visitors can participate in educational workshops, harvest from the edible garden, or curl up with a good book.
The Patterson Garden Club is partnering with the Patterson Library and other local groups to present multiple native wildflower education events for public participation in 2022. Events will include a wildflower celebration event and planting in the community garden, educational programming for kids and adults, a Bioblitz to document the biodiversity in the garden, and more!
